Just got my large (2500cm x 500cm) canvas back from the photographers and in this beautiful spring light its suddenly come to life; its good to know that all those long cold hours spent painting it over winter have finally paid off!

Exciting New Art Workshops

INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING
All painting starts with drawing – use this workshop as a refresher or as an introduction to basic drawing skills. We will be looking at composition, perspective, measuring and modelling techniques using pencil, charcoal, sanguine, graphite, chalk and pastel.

Suitable for all levels, the cost of the workshop is £45 which includes all materials and light refreshments.

Sunday 6th April, 1.30-4.30pm in the Lecture Room at Le Friquet Garden Centre.

ACRYLIC PAINTING
The most versatile painting medium on the market, able to perform like watercolour and oil paint.

We will be experimenting with different techniques as well as looking at the colour wheel, composition, use of brushes as well as mark making using knives, card and sponges. The aim being to build up confidence to enable you to carry on painting at home.

Suitable for all levels, the cost of £47 includes all materials and light refreshments.

I’ve just finished my first series of acrylic landscapes of St Peter Port and am preparing to transfer them into prints any day now. It’s good to review them as there is a lot more to be said in terms of paintings to be worked on in this subject, but it’s a start.

PLATE PAINTING WORKSHOP
Transform your old dinner service and/or design original presents for friends and family with these wonderful porcelain paints that air dry and don’t require firing. A three hour workshop full of great ideas on composition, use of colour and the different techniques that can be achieved. Very relaxing and fun with minimum artistic talent required. Cost of £45 includes a dinner plate to decorate and tea/coffee and biscuits. You are very welcome to bring along any pieces to decorate – as many as the time will allow!

Workshops take place at Styx community centre, St Peters, 2-5pm, Sunday 20th October repeated again on Sunday 1st December.

DRAWING FROM THE CLOTHED MODEL
A drawing workshop designed to loosen up your drawing style using charcoal, pencil, sanguine, pastel, graphite and chalk. We will be looking at mark making and personal expression in portraiture using a professional model and fun props. Suitable for all levels from beginners to the more experienced, cost of £45 includes all materials and tea/coffee and biscuits.

Workshop takes place at Styx community centre, St Peters, 2-5pm, Sunday 17th November.

Summer Art Club ends

IMG_1135We had a great time experimenting with all sorts of materials including todays favourite: lava texture paste. We’ve worked with colour and shapes, 3 dimensional objects, mark making, texture and best of all finding new like-minded friends. Art Club will start up again in September for Saturday morning Art Club.

Great examples of perspective studies showing objects overlapping and getting bigger closer to the viewer as well as overhead distortion and the importance of sketching out ideas first.

I love working with children as the enthusiasm is so catching – here we are looking at the subject of perspective in our own invented city complete with converging highways using oil pastels, water soluble pencils and coloured ink.
