Sculpture is an amazing way to teach shape and form in a fun way, these week long workshops will be very messy so please wear old clothes and be prepared to get your hands dirty!  There are two options available, full week Monday-Friday 30th July – 3rd August part time or full days 9-3pm on Monday 13th, Wednesday 15th and Friday 17th August.

Monday 30th July:  9.30-12pm:  Macquettes – we will start off by sketching from life real animals looking at shape and form – quick drawings using pencil and charcoal.  Using these drawings we will start building a sculptural macquette (model) out of willow/wire. Depending on time we will then start building onto the macquettes to create shape and form using plaster of paris/papier-mache.

Tuesday 31st July: 9.30-12pm: Macquettes (cont) – again we will start off by sketching from life looking at real animals this time looking at texture and personality.  Using these drawings we will continue with our macquette adding these qualities.

Wednesday 1st August: 9.30-12pm: Macquettes (cont) – drawing again  from life we will look at movement in the animal.  Working on the macquettes we can now add colour and finishing touches to the sculptures.

Thursday 2nd August: 9.30-12:  Found Objects – many artists have used objects regarded as rubbish in society as the basis for art and we will use these objects as the basis for another animal sculpture, this time working with form rather than inventing form, all the time using our drawings as inspiration.

Friday 3rd August: 9.30-12:  Found Objects (cont) – finishing off our sculptures in preparation for our grand art exhibition to show our families what we have achieved in the week.

Materials used during the week include pencil, pastel, charcoal, acrylic and watercolour paint, porcelain clay, plaster of paris and papier mache.

The workshops are aimed at children from 7 upwards who enjoy being creative and imaginative, to get the most out of the sessions it is advisable to book all 5, however you can enrol for the sessions Monday – Wednesday or Thursday – Friday if so wishing.  All sessions are led by Frances, a practising artist in her art studio in St Peters.

Because numbers are limited in each workshop early booking is advisable. The cost of each workshop is £26 which includes a biscuit and juice half way through the session, option of staying for lunch (please bring your own) with pick up at 1.30pm, £14 extra.

August 13th – August 17th

Full days offer the opportunity to really focus on the sculptural project, each day can be booked separately or ideally as a group of three.  The studio is situated within an apple orchard so children can eat their brought packed lunch and run around the three fields in their lunch-break quite safely.

Monday 13th August: 9-3: we will begin by sketching animals using various media, then looking at a dog we will assemble a sculpture using found and hand painted paper, looking at form, texture and personality.

Wednesday 15th August: 9-3: again we start off sketching, this time looking at donkeys we will construct a wire armature to be covered in plaster of paris and finally hand painted.

Friday 17th August: 9-3: again sketching to loosen up and get ideas, we now build a willow armature of a hen to be covered in glorious multi media.  This is the exhibition day of the week’s work and family are invited to view sketches and finished work at close of workshop at 3pm.

The workshops are aimed at children from 7 upwards who enjoy being creative and imaginative, to get the most out of the sessions it is advisable to book all 3.  All sessions are led by Frances, a practising artist in her art studio in St Peters.

Because numbers are limited in each workshop early booking is advisable. The cost of each workshop is £39 which includes light refreshments morning and early afternoon.
