Sculpture is an amazing way to teach shape and form in a fun way, these workshops will be very messy so please wear old clothes and be prepared to get your hands dirty!

Monday 14th August:  9.30-12pm:  Maquettes – we will start off by sketching from life real animals looking at shape and form – quick drawings using pencil and charcoal.  Using these drawings we will start building a sculptural maquette (model) out of willow/wire. Depending on time we will then start building onto the maquettes to create shape and form using plaster of paris/papier mache.

Tuesday 15th August: 9.30-12pm: Maquettes (cont) – again we will start off by sketching from life looking at real animals this time looking at texture and personality.  Using these drawings we will continue with our maquette adding these qualities.

Wednesday 16th August: 9.30-12pm: Maquettes (cont) – drawing again  from life we will look at movement in the animal.  Working on the maquettes we can now add colour and finishing touches to the sculptures.

Thursday 17th August: 9.30-12:  Found Objects – many artists have used objects regarded as rubbish in society as the basis for art and we will use these objects as the basis for another animal sculpture, this time working with form rather than inventing form, all the time using our drawings as inspiration.

Friday 18th August: 9.30-12:  Found Objects (cont) – finishing off our sculptures in preparation for our grand art exhibition to show our families what we have achieved in the week.

The workshops are aimed at children from 7 upwards who enjoy being creative and imaginative, I will be repeating the sessions in the afternoons 1-3.30pm for ages 12+.  To get the most out of the sessions it is advisable to book all 5, however you can enrol for the sessions Monday – Wednesday or Thursday – Friday if so wishing.  All sessions are led by a practising artist and run from 9.30-12.00 in Frances’ art studio in St Peters.

Because numbers are limited in each workshop early booking is advisable. The cost of each workshop is £25 which includes a biscuit and juice half way through the session.

Any queries on the above, please contact Frances on:
