SUMMER ART CLUB 2025

The summer art club is a week long course running 9-1pm looking at different aspects of creativity working with a professional artist in a safe, relaxed, enclosed environment. Because it runs over 5 days we can work on complicated projects and projects that need time to dry.  The children make new friends and work together and at the end of the week they present an exhibition of their work to their family and friends, something that they are always proud to do.

SUMMER ART CLUB 2020

Monday 27th July 9-3: WELCOME FROM THE RABBITS AND ME –  Having made our own art badges to introduce ourselves to each other, we will then make art portfolios to keep our art work safe for the week using marbelling paint technique.  Introductions over, we will sketch a visiting rabbit or two in charcoal, pastel and ink.

Tuesday 28th July 9.3: ITS SUNDAY NOT TUESDAY – today our theme is the sun,  firstly making cyanotype prints,  then shadow tracing a fantasy garden full of weird and wonderful objects and lastly looking at huge sunflower paintings…wow hope the sun shines!

Wednesday 29th July: 9-3:  DONKEYS, BUTTERFLIES AND COAT OF ARMS –  we sketch our neighbours (donkeys) using graphite and chalk then design a fantastical 3D paper butterfly garden for our healthy garden.  Lastly thinking about our own coat of arms using batik technique we will create our own flags to display in the garden..

Thursday 30th July: 9-3:  GOOEY THURSDAY –  fingers crossed for no rain as we will be painting up our gorgeous batik flags on the grass and designing and making messy puppets for a fabulous puppet show tomorrow!

AND LASTLY,  THREE DAYS OF PRINTING

Join me for the three final days of experimentation in my studio.  Looking at printmaking as I have discovered some great techniques and processes

September 1st:  9.30-12: Styrofoam printmaking:  using intaglio method of printmaking using easy to carve sheets and inspiration from the garden.

September 2nd: 9.30-12: Cyanotype printmaking: using the suns rays to develop fascinating results, experimenting with various natural ingredients.

September 3rd: 9.30-12: Monotype printmaking: drawing freehand in paint with various tools and found objects.

Cost of each workshop is £26 which includes refreshment break half way through.

 SUMMER ART CLUB 2019

Monday 29th July: BIG AND SMALL – Finding inspiration from everything around us, we will hunt down plants, animals and fruit shapes to build up a weird and wonderful portfolio of mark making using large pieces of paper, charcoal and chalk, pastels on sticks, feathers with ink, felt pens and magical colour pigments.  Then we will look into using these drawings to build up a story with a hero (whichever animal we drew in the morning) to make into a fold out story to go inside a match box.

Tuesday 30th July: 9-3: POP ART – We spend the morning sketching animals which will improve our quick decisive marks on paper.  These drawings will then be turned into Monotype and Styrofoam prints which will be the starting point to make bright pop art acrylic paintings.

Wednesday 31st July: 9-3:  MESSY WEDNESDAY – Every week has to have one very messy day and this is it; dress appropriately please! Making gorgeous gooey Gelatine prints of some of the objects we found on Monday and shaving foam Marbelling paper are just two of the fun techniques we will be looking at.

Thursday 1st August: 9-3: MOSAIC – Great opportunity today to try your hand at creating a garden mosaic using small mosaic stones and also hand painting larger ceramic tiles to tell a story that is about the garden; the animals and plants within it.  If you are here all week, the storytelling can be a continuation of your matchbox story.

Friday 2nd August: 9-3: COLLAGE – Having worked hard all week we should now have a huge supply of exciting and beautiful papers, some of the sketches, drawings, prints we made, that can be cut up and things that we have found along the way in the garden – perfect to make into a beautiful collage.

The last afternoon will be spent tidying up and getting our exhibition ready for family and friends to come and admire what we have achieved.

Hi Kimberley, I usually start the adult workshops in September/October. They mostly happen on a Sunday afternoon as that seems to be quite a good time for people. If you give me your email address I’ll put you down on my mailing list and keep you posted for events. I also teach 1:1 if that is of interest, so if you wanted to learn to paint in a specific medium or have a special class on drawing I could help you with that. As with the group workshops, the 1:1 will also start up again in September/October and you can let me know which day and when is most convenient for you. Best wishes, Frances
