SUMMER ART CLUB 2023

The summer art club is a week long course running 9-3pm looking at different aspects of creativity working with a professional artist in a safe, relaxed, enclosed environment. Because it runs over 5 days we can work on complicated projects and projects that need time to dry.  The children make new friends and work together and at the end of the week they present an exhibition of their work to their family and friends, something that they are always proud to do.

This year there are 2 x week long courses to choose from:

JULY 17th – 21st: UNDER THE WATER

JULY 31ST – 4TH AUGUST: FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD!

20160601_1043471

We will be looking at drawing, painting, printing, as well as sculpture and other messy activities including paper making, mosaic and book making.   These week long workshops will be very messy so please wear old clothes and be prepared to get your hands dirty! Mon-Fri, 9-3pm  £300 for all week

JULY 17th – 21st: UNDER THE WATER

What fate awaits us?

We will learn about famous explorers of the deep, including Jacques Cousteau and Robert Ballard (who discovered the Titanic wreck as well as great sea explorers including Sir Francis Chichester.  As part of our journey we will make a deep sea journal using different types of fantastical and exotic papers made with rubber cement drawing, paper marbelling with oil, wax paper resist and sand painting which are all very messy processes so we will have to wait patiently for fair weather days. On our voyage we will make a 3d papier mache fish to decorate and a carp fish kite to drag in the sea breezes behind us as well as a mixed media collage, jelly fish resist painting and monoprinting of various sightings of sea fish and inhabitants of the deep waters.

JULY 31st – AUGUST 4th:  FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD

Yum!

In our journey through time we will discover special and peculiar medicinal cures using food, how to make colourful dyes from food,  and the sometimes surprising chemical effects of using basic household ingredients such as baking soda, vinegar, oil and seasalt.  We will print off gelatine plates.  We will look at the ceramist Kate Malone’s work and make our own 3d papier mache bowls designed as  a large fruit/vegetable.  We will also invent our own sweet as a 3d model, give it a catchy name and plan our world domination as a sweet manufacturer.  Added to this we will use collage, pastel and pop art to describe the wondrous world of food artistically and we might even (if we have time) construct a journal to record our astonishing discoveries – not for the faint hearted.

 SUMMER ART CLUB 2019

Monday 29th July: BIG AND SMALL – Finding inspiration from everything around us, we will hunt down plants, animals and fruit shapes to build up a weird and wonderful portfolio of mark making using large pieces of paper, charcoal and chalk, pastels on sticks, feathers with ink, felt pens and magical colour pigments.  Then we will look into using these drawings to build up a story with a hero (whichever animal we drew in the morning) to make into a fold out story to go inside a match box.

Tuesday 30th July: 9-3: POP ART – We spend the morning sketching animals which will improve our quick decisive marks on paper.  These drawings will then be turned into Monotype and Styrofoam prints which will be the starting point to make bright pop art acrylic paintings.

Wednesday 31st July: 9-3:  MESSY WEDNESDAY – Every week has to have one very messy day and this is it; dress appropriately please! Making gorgeous gooey Gelatine prints of some of the objects we found on Monday and shaving foam Marbelling paper are just two of the fun techniques we will be looking at.

Thursday 1st August: 9-3: MOSAIC – Great opportunity today to try your hand at creating a garden mosaic using small mosaic stones and also hand painting larger ceramic tiles to tell a story that is about the garden; the animals and plants within it.  If you are here all week, the storytelling can be a continuation of your matchbox story.

Friday 2nd August: 9-3: COLLAGE – Having worked hard all week we should now have a huge supply of exciting and beautiful papers, some of the sketches, drawings, prints we made, that can be cut up and things that we have found along the way in the garden – perfect to make into a beautiful collage.

The last afternoon will be spent tidying up and getting our exhibition ready for family and friends to come and admire what we have achieved.

    • lemmonforart August 15, 2021 at 4:35 pm #

Hi Kimberley, I usually start the adult workshops in September/October. They mostly happen on a Sunday afternoon as that seems to be quite a good time for people. If you give me your email address I’ll put you down on my mailing list and keep you posted for events. I also teach 1:1 if that is of interest, so if you wanted to learn to paint in a specific medium or have a special class on drawing I could help you with that. As with the group workshops, the 1:1 will also start up again in September/October and you can let me know which day and when is most convenient for you. Best wishes, Frances
