Adult workshops

11TH JANUARY:  BRAIDING:  using natural fibres and brightly coloured paper raffia we will construct all manner of trays/place mats/coasters/baskets – the more decorative the better.

19TH JANUARY: WEAVING: looking in more detail at this most therapeutic craft, using natural fibres we will construct candle/plant holders/baskets, using colour to enhance the natural materials.

26TH JANUARY: BOTANICAL PAINTING: an easy to complete workshop for even the most hesitant artist, using floral guides to help construct the final painting.

1 ST MARCH: OIL PAINTING: perfect opportunity to try your hand at this extremely versatile and effective paint medium using a drawn guide to help construct the final painting.

Each workshop runs 2-4pm in my art studio in St Peters, costs £30 which includes all materials and tea/coffee and nice biscuits.  Very small groups due to limited space in studio means more biscuits to go round and plenty of 1:1 guidance from Frances.

MAY 2020

You will stay in a B&B for four nights with fellow artists, with the opportunity to draw and paint the beautiful quiet Sark landscape for five days following in Mervyn Peake’s artistic footsteps.

Mervyn Peake lived on Sark twice in his life; during the 1930’s as a single man where he joined an artists’ colony known as The Sark Group and later between the years 1947-1950 when he returned to the island with his young family.   He painted and wrote extensively whilst living on the island and the beauty and peace of Sark were the inspiration for his creations.  Many of his regular walks are now listed in the recently published “Son of Sark” by S Foote published by Blue Ormer.

We will use the walks as the starting point for each day’s excursion, painting and drawing in the morning, eating a picnic lunch and then painting on into the afternoon – in the case of inclement weather there is a big conservatory we can use.  This is an individually tutored course with set projects to complete each day in order to improve your skill level, but I recognize the importance of using this time to also relax and destress properly so there is no compulsion to draw or paint if you just fancy a walk in the peace of the island

Cost of the course is £485 which includes travel to and from Sark, a shared evening meal at the end of the course and four night’s accommodation and breakfast.  Single room supplement £60.00.  Small group so early booking is advisable, please email me on

New for 2019!

A series of four fun and relaxing 2 hour craft sessions on a Sunday afternoon leading up to Christmas in my art studio in St Peters.   A great opportunity to learn a new skill whilst making a gift for your loved ones.  Very small friendly groups, no experience needed just a willingness to have some creative fun with like minded people, limited space so early booking is advisable.

24th November 2019:  DIY CRACKERS: come and make as many as time allows, design something especially for the people in your life to make a unique gift.  I will provide all the materials including basic gifts to go inside the crackers so please feel free to bring anything personal you may wish to add as well.

1st December 2019:  PAINTED CHINA: using air dried paints to make a bespoke teapot, Christmas plate, dog bowl or even a whole dinner service if time allows.  I will provide some basic white china pieces so please feel free to bring any additional items you may wish to work on.

8th December 2019: BASKET WEAVING: using willow and brightly coloured raffia we will create personalised place mats, mini bowls and baskets to create a festive theme for your dinner table or to give as gifts.  This is a lovely medium to work in, very therapeutic and relaxing.

15th December 2019: CHRISTMAS WREATHS: always great fun! swags of ivy, holly, fir, pine cones, ribbon and all sorts of exotic natural shapes and colours on a willow base, come and design a wreath for your front door, your fireplace or dinner table or all three.

Cost of each workshop is £30 – which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.  Each workshop runs from 2-4pm.  Email Frances on for more details
