Adult Workshops 2023

Sketching course: starting 2nd June 2023

A series of 4 x Friday mornings, 9.30-12.00, looking at the landscape in situ at various locations around the island.

We will cover measuring, tone, composition, perspective as well as use of various sketching and found materials. In particular, working in an experimental way with different materials and the surprising results achieved.

June 2nd, June 16th, June 23rd and June 30th

Venues to be confirmed nearer the time, cost of 4 x sessions is £95 which includes most materials, please bring basic materials such as a folding chair, pencils, sketchbook, paper and paint if you have these already.

Sunday afternoon art sessions

Starting February 5th in my St Peters studio

Grab some precious time for yourself and learn various skills in the cosiness of my studio with other like minded people, all materials included just bring curiosity and a sense of fun with you

5th February: 1.30-4pm: Drawing:

using pencil, charcoal, pastel pencil and sanguine, we ill look at copying, changing scale and use of different materials to develop a 3d effect in your drawings using tone and texture. Suitable for all levels from complete beginners.

19th February: 1.30-4pm: Painting:

using watercolour and gouache we will learn how to use washes, blend, dry brush and create accent colours. We will also look a the colour wheel and discuss how to add emotion and atmosphere in a painting by way of selected colours. Suitable for all levels from complete beginners.

5th March: 1.30-4pm: Sculpture:

sculpture is easy and a lot of fun, it allows you to work in 3 dimensions and decide what scale to work to. Using wire and plaster of paris we will make a 3d animal maquette on a wooden plinth, which can then be finely carved with an artists knife. Suitable for all levels from complete beginners.

19th March: 1.30-4pm: Painting

using oil paint we will learn how to base layer, add fat into lean on subsequent layers and how to glaze the final piece. Looking at various methods of oil painting including washes, blending and impasto technique. Suitable for all levels from complete beginners.

six week spring illustration course

Starting 3rd February 2023, 9.30-12.00

Looking at a different medium each week, the intention of this course is to build a fluidity and style in your work.

We will work with pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolour, gouache and oil paint

You can choose the story/poem/prose to work with or Frances will bring in reference pieces for you.

Suitable for beginners or those with more experience, this course is a fun introduction to different media and techniques.

Christmas Wreath Workshop

Sunday afternoons

December 11th and 18th, 1-3pm

Using willow and foraged greenery, we will make front door wreaths, small table top wreaths and runners and gorgeous drapery to transform your home. Small groups in my art studio, tea, biscuits, banter included, £30 pp.

Sunday afternoon spring workshops

Introducing this series of four workshops looking at a different skill each month. Come and learn something new, which you can then carry on with at home. Join this small friendly group of like-minded individuals, have a cup of tea and a biscuit and a natter on a Sunday afternoon…

March 28th: 2-4.30pm: Make a glorious Easter wreath for your door, or to lay on your table using all sorts of found seasonal objects.

April 18th: 2-4.30pm: Make a large serving platter with mosaic, using stones, sea glass, shells and pieces of pottery (please feel free to bring any you wish to include in your platter)

May 2nd: 2-4.30pm: Design and make your own coasters and place mats using brightly coloured raffia and dry grass. A very relaxing past-time!

May 16th: 2-4.30pm: Using cold porcelain clay to make jewellery/ paperweights/ keyrings or ornaments. This very versatile medium is extremely hard wearing and tough as well as being decorative.

All workshops will take place in my art studio in St. Peters and cost £30 per person which includes all materials and light refreshments. Book early, space is very limited!

 

 

autumn landscape drawing course 2020

A four week course looking at the basics of drawing direct from the landscape in the mellow month of October – please dress accordingly!  Using pencil, charcoal, pen and ink and pastel, breaking down the drawing process into easy to follow steps.

Meeting at different locations each week, the first week will be at my studio in St. Peters where we will go through the fundamentals of sketching outside.  All materials supplied apart from a collapsible chair and sketchbook/ drawing pad.

The four Saturdays are: 26th September, 3rd October, 10th October and 17th October.  2-4pm,  cost of course £ 60.00  Limited numbers due to size of my studio.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT WORKSHOPS

Make all manner of Christmas wreaths and garlands for your door and your dining table using all sorts of seasonal foliage and decoration.

Cost of workshop is £30 which includes all materials and light refreshments. Every Sunday between 2-4pm on the 6th, 13th and 20th December 2020.

    Hello there,

    I would like to enquirer about adult classes you may have starting this year 2022.
    Although I paint at home, I haven’t had the benefit of lessons. I have only been painting a few months so still have a lot to learn, a beginners class I think is where I need to start.
