Come and learn/revisit skills in the New Year in my art studio in St Peters.

7 January 2024: DRAWING: learn basics of measuring, tonal values, composition, changing scale and using different media together in this crash course to give you the confidence to work by yourself going forward.

21st January 2024: MOSAIC: learn how to work in this fun media, using stones, pottery (your own pre-loved ceramics maybe) beads, shells. Looking at colour, pattern and rhythm. Bring an image to copy or use images within the workshop.

4th February 2024: ACRYLIC PAINTING: learn basics of painting using this extremely versatile medium. Create washes, over-layering effects and thick impasto finishes. Bring along an image to work from or use images within the workshop

18th February 2024: MIXED MEDIA: learn how to combine paint, collage and found objects, ink and pastel within a composition. A great way to start out with new ideas and themes, getting inspiration by looking at well known artists’ work.

NEW YEAR OIL COURSE

18th, 25th January and 1st and 8th February 2024

9.30-12.00

A short, four week course based in my art studio in St Peters. Learn how to draw out and compose an effective painting, sketching in the base colour, working on each successive layer of paint, then glazing to achieve the texture and depth associated with this traditional medium.

Suitable for all levels of ability, this will be a small, friendly class due to the space available inside my studio!

All materials are included, though please bring any you might have already at home

Its July, the start of children’s workshops in my studio

A series of 4 x Friday mornings, 9.30-12.00, looking at the landscape in situ at various locations around the island.

We will cover measuring, tone, composition, perspective as well as use of various sketching and found materials. In particular, working in an experimental way with different materials and the surprising results achieved.

Venues to be confirmed nearer the time, cost of 4 x sessions is £95 which includes most materials, please bring basic materials such as a folding chair, pencils, sketchbook, paper and paint if you have these already.

Sunday Art Afternoons: 1.30 – 4.00pm

Learn a new skill this spring, all materials included just bring curiosity and an openness to explore, experiment and play. Small classes in private art studio.

5th February: Drawing:

using pencil, charcoal, pastel pencil and sanguine, we will look at copying, changing scale and use of different materials to develop a 3d effect in your drawings using tone and texture. Suitable for all levels from complete beginners.

19th February: Painting:

using watercolour and gouache we will learn how to use washes, blend, dry brush and add accent colours. We will also look at the colour wheel and discuss how to add emotion and atmosphere in a painting by way of selected colours. Suitable for all levels from complete beginners

5th March: Sculpture:

Sculpture is easy and a lot of fun, it allows you work in 3 dimensions and decide what scale to work to. Using wire and plaster of paris we will make a 3d animal maquette on a wooden plinth, which can then be finely carved with an artists knife. Suitable for all levels from complete beginners

19th March: Painting

using oil paint we will learn how to base layer, add fat into lean on subsequent layers and how to glaze the final work. Looking at various methods oil painting including washes, blending and impasto technique. Suitable for all levels from complete beginners.
